Reflecting family & community history through breath in quilting.

Breathing reflects the dignity of life, forming a chain that connects each moment of our existence. This natural act serves as a vivid metaphor for our present lives and the recorded history and events of our families and communities. Just as frontier families reused old fabrics to craft quilts, we also connect fragments of the past to weave an ongoing narrative.

This project infuses new life into the traditional technique of patchwork. Each patch embodies an individual's breath and an imprint of their mouth, capturing the bonds and history passed down through generations. This quilt positions the universal act of breathing at the heart of culture and community, serving as a mirror to reflect and reconsider the acts of reconstruction and deconstruction in our lives.

呼吸とパッチワーク布を通じて、生命、歴史、そしてコミュニティを繋ぐ物語

呼吸は生命の尊厳を反映し、私たちの存在の瞬間瞬間をつなぐ鎖となる。この自然な行為は、私たちが生きている現在、そして家族やコミュニティの歴史や出来事を記録する鮮明なメタファーである。

開拓時代の家族が使い古した布を再利用してキルトを作ったように、私たちも過去の断片を繋ぎ合わせ、継続的な物語を織りなす。

このプロジェクトは、伝統的な技法であるパッチワーク布に新たな息吹を注ぎ込む。各パッチには、1人の呼吸と口の模型が刻まれ、世代間で受け継がれる家族の絆と歴史を表現している。

このキルトは、文化やコミュニティの中心に呼吸という普遍的な行為を位置づけ、私たちの生活の中での再構築と解体の行為を見つめ直す鏡となる。
